You've studied the defensive tactics of squires and chroniclers who have found that the best form of defense is to protect your more capable allies. You Raise a Shield to give an adjacent ally the circumstance bonus from your shield to their AC instead of you as long as the selected ally remains adjacent to you. These benefits last until the start of your next turn or until you're no longer adjacent to your ally, whichever happens first. If you have the Shield Block feat, you can trigger Shield Block when you have your shield raised and the selected ally would take physical damage from an attack. You gain no bonus from Raising your Shield this way and can't Shield Block if you would take damage.
