The Shivering Reach

A frozen wasteland where permafrost preserves the ancient dead and blizzards can strip flesh from bone in moments of carelessness.

A frozen northern tundra where blizzards can last for weeks and ancient things stir beneath the permafrost.

Environment Arctic

The Shivering Reach is a vast expanse of frozen tundra and glacial ice fields stretching across the northernmost reaches of the known world. Blizzards strike without warning and can last for days, reducing visibility to nothing and dropping temperatures to instantly lethal levels. The permafrost preserves things that should have stayed buried — mammoth-era megafauna, frozen soldiers from forgotten wars, and sealed vaults of civilizations that thrived before the ice advanced. Nomadic tribes of cold-adapted peoples navigate the Reach by reading the aurora and the behavior of arctic wildlife. In the deepest winter, when the sun doesn't rise for weeks, stranger things move across the ice — shapes seen only as silhouettes against the aurora.
