The Pallid Athenaeum is carved into the bedrock beneath a ruined tower, its clinical stone corridors lined with shelves of preserved specimens, alchemical apparatus, and meticulously organized research notes written in ciphered script. The lich who created it disappeared long ago, but its contingency enchantments keep the laboratory operational — undead servants shuffle through their routines, experiments bubble in sealed chambers, and arcane defenses remain fully active. The deeper one ventures, the more disturbing the research becomes: soul-trapping devices, flesh-crafting vats, and a phylactery forge whose purpose is unmistakable. Magical traps here are sophisticated, targeting specific creature types and adapting to intruders' tactics.
