The Crucible of Chains
A volcanic prison built to hold monsters—but when the warden vanished, the wards began to fail and the inmates grew restless.
A prison-dungeon built inside a volcanic caldera, designed to hold the most dangerous creatures and criminals. Its warden disappeared years ago.
Environment Volcanic
The Crucible of Chains occupies a caldera accessible only by a single bridge spanning a chasm of churning magma. The prison is built downward into the caldera wall, each level deeper and more secure than the last, with cells warded against magic, reinforced against superhuman strength, and monitored by bound elemental sentries. When the warden vanished under mysterious circumstances, the automated defenses remained active but the organized maintenance ceased — some cells have failed, releasing their occupants into the corridors, while others hold prisoners who have been trapped for decades with no one coming to feed or release them. The lowest level, the Oubliette, was reserved for extraplanar threats and remains sealed behind doors that require three separate keys to open.
