Cindermaw Caverns
A dragon's volcanic lair where magma lakes illuminate mountains of melted treasure and the beast's breath warps stone itself.
A volcanic mountain lair claimed by a dragon, its tunnels warped by extreme heat and littered with the treasures of failed challengers.
Environment Volcanic
The Cindermaw Caverns wind through the heart of a semi-active volcano, their basalt walls glowing dull red with geothermal heat. The dragon that claims this lair has shaped the tunnels over centuries, collapsing some passages and widening others to create a defensible network of choke points and ambush positions. The main hoard chamber is a vast cavern where a lake of cooling magma illuminates mountains of coin, armor, and magical treasures melted partially together by the heat. Smaller chambers serve as trophy rooms, feeding grounds, and thermal vents the dragon uses to regulate its body temperature. The approach is visible for miles — a column of sulfurous smoke rising from the peak — ensuring the dragon always sees challengers coming.
