Leucrotta Ambush at the Crossroads
A crying-voice mimic lures travelers off the road, then fiendish enforcers cut off retreat while the real predator flanks a spellcaster.
A level-5 severe encounter. A leucrotta has lured travelers off the road by mimicking a distressed voice. Two barbazus serve as shock troops, cutting off retreat while the leucrotta flanks.
Difficulty Severe · Level 5 · Party 4 · Environment Wilderness
A child's crying echoes from the tree line. As you approach, the crying shifts — too precise, too perfect. Then you smell sulphur.
Tactics. Barbazus charge the nearest melee fighters to create chaos. The leucrotta hangs back until it can flank a spellcaster, then activates Cacophonous Roar to panic low-Will characters and Gulping Bite to disable a key PC.
Scaling. For 3 players: replace one barbazu with a dretch. For 5 players: add a second leucrotta.
Aftermath. The leucrotta's lair (1d4 hours travel) holds treasure from past victims and clues about who dispatched it.
XP Budget 120
Threat. Leucrotta's voice mimicry sets up ambush conditions; the cacophonous roar ability can panic low-Will characters.
